Here is a little about myself...
I was born and grew up in Japan but I have been a Jacksonville resident since 2002. I used to be a teacher at an English immersion preschool in Tokyo. Shortly after I moved from Japan, I decided to become a teacher in Florida too. I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Pre-K/Primary Education and Master’s Degree in Elementary Education with concentration in Literacy from the University of North Florida. I hold a Florida Teaching Certificate in Pre-K/Primary Education as well as ESOL and Reading Endorsements.
This is my fourth year at Seaside Community Charter School. I have taught first grade for two years, second grade last year, and am excited to teach third grade this year. Prior to accepting a teacher position at SCCS, I had taught preschoolers and kindergarteners at local independent schools for three years. My goal as a teacher is to create intrinsic lifelong learners in a nurturing environment. In my spare time I enjoy exercising, especially running and dancing. I lead the SCCS Running Club and often participate in races from 5K to full marathon. I enjoy participating in races with the Seaside runners. I am a licensed Zumba instructor and certified group fitness instructor by the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America. I teach classes at a local gym as a fitness volunteer. I had a great time teaching the Zumba Kids program for the SCCS Fitness Day last June. I am looking forward to having fun with the Seaside students with Zumba again this year.
I have a wonderful family. My husband, David, is a Navy retiree and works for logistics at the Naval Station Mayport. We have two grown children. Our son, Michael, is a chemical engineer and our daughter, Melissa, is a graphic designer. We have two guinea pigs, Mocha and Chai, who were adopted from the SCCS.
