We had a lot of excitement this week. The highlight of the week was that we started woodworking. How wonderful for the children to make wooden blocks! Our woodworking teacher, Mr. Pete taught us how to sand them and the children did a super job! We can't wait for the next class. Thank you, Mr. Pete!
I am so glad that everyone had a wonderful spring break. I enjoyed listening to the children's spring break stories. We had a lot of excitement this week. We enjoyed observing the goose egg Joshua brought to share with us. A couple of irises in our class garden bloomed! Did you know that we had rock stars in our class??

Enjoy some spring songs. :) Snowdrop down
Snowdrop down, crocus up Head held down, and head held up, Down to Mother Earth And up to Father Sun Winter is over, and spring has begun. Waiting for Leaves The snowdrops are out And the crocuses are out. The daffodils are nearly there, But the new spring leaves Can't be seen on the trees, The branches of the trees look bare. The snowdrops are out And the crocuses are out. The daffodils are nearly there, When the buds on the trees Open up into leaves, No longer will the trees look bare. Wake up, All You Little Children Wake up, wake up, all you little children, Sunlight, sky bright, spring is coming now. Gusty March winds blowing, daffodils a-growing, Birds sing, bells ring. There's blossom on the bough. We had another busy week. We had many guests who gave us safety presentations. We learned about firefighters on Tuesday, bike safety on Wednesday, water safety on Thursday and train safety on Friday. We continued to learn about nonfiction texts. The children created K-W-L charts (http://www.nea.org/tools/k-w-l-know-want-to-know-learned.html) reading nonfiction books about Sea Turtles. The children listed what they knew about sea turtles, and then listed what they want to know on the charts. We thought we knew a lot about our school mascots but we learned many facts! We celebrated two birthdays. We celebrated Jayden's birthday on Thursday, March 12. Lucas' birthday is March 17 (St. Patrick's Day!), which will be during our spring break so we had a celebration on Friday. Happy birthday, Jayden and Lucas! We also celebrated St. Patrick's Day making origami Leprechauns. Happy St. Patrick's Day! Have a great spring break!
How exciting to start a new week celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday! SCCS had a school-wide celebration on Monday. Unfortunately I was not able to be on campus but the children had a great day with our substitute teacher, Ms. Murphy. I am so glad that Ms. Murphy enjoyed the Red Fish costume I had prepared for her. Learning about the characteristics of nonfiction books, practicing addition problems making ten, making pompom flowers, experiencing oil pastel scratch drawing for the first time...what a fun-filled and productive week we had! Next week we will be having safety presentations every day. It will be another fun week! Stay tuned.
